Trump Suing CBS, '60 Minutes' Over 'Defamatory' Stories

President Donald Trump on Sunday announced he was launching a lawsuit against CBS and its news program “60 Minutes” over what he claims are “defamatory” stories about him.

The show on Sunday aired two stories relating to Trump on the war in Ukraine and the president’s push to acquire Greenland. He responded in a post via Truth Social accusing the show of depicting him “falsely, inaccurately, and fraudulently.”

“I am so honored to be suing 60 Minutes, CBS Fake News, and Paramount, over their fraudulent, beyond recognition, reporting,” he wrote. “They are not a ‘News Show,’ but a dishonest Political Operative simply disguised as ‘News,’ and must be responsible for what they have done, and are doing.”

Trump also called on FCC Chairman Brendan Carr to examine whether he could revoke CBS’s broadcast license.

“Hopefully, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), as headed by its Highly Respected Chairman, Brendan Carr, will impose the maximum fines and punishment, which is substantial, for their unlawful and illegal behavior,” the president added.

“CBS is out of control, at levels never seen before, and they should pay a big price for this.”

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., also condemned CBS in a post via X.

“New ownership of CBS cannot happen fast enough for conservatives,” he wrote. “Two hit pieces tonight, back to back on 60 Minutes, against President @realDonaldTrump. And people wonder why Republicans are so turned off to the mainstream media. To our allies: don’t let the liberal media play you. I would have hoped you would have learned that by now.”

Trump and Republican allies have tussled with “60 Minutes” in the past over its interview with former Vice President Kamala Harris.

Trump filed a $10 billion lawsuit which argued CBS tried to sway voters by editing Harris’s responses to questions.

"So, you know what '60 Minutes' did?” Trump wrote in October. “Can you imagine them doing that for me? They took the very long answer. You just went on and on. Just words didn't mean anything. '60 Minutes' and CBS cut it all out and they took another answer for a meaningless question and they put it up there.”
